Multi-Currency & International Selling

We build stores that sell internationally the right way — local currencies, correct tax and duties, and translated content — so overseas shoppers see prices and a checkout that feel local instead of foreign.

Local prices, local checkout

International shoppers convert far better when they see prices in their own currency and pay the way they normally do. Showing a US-dollar price and a US-only payment method to a buyer in Germany is a quiet conversion killer.

We set up currency display and local payment methods so the store feels native to each market, with pricing you control rather than raw exchange-rate math.

  • Prices shown and charged in the shopper's local currency
  • Currency rounding and price rules so you don't end up with $19.37-style prices
  • Local payment methods (e.g. iDEAL, SEPA, regional wallets) alongside cards
  • Geolocation to suggest the right market, with an easy manual switch
  • Clear display of whether duties/taxes are included at checkout

Tax, duties, and translation

Selling across borders means getting tax right and not surprising customers with a duty bill at their door. It also means the content itself should read naturally in the shopper's language, not machine-mangled.

We handle the tax/duty configuration and set up a real translation workflow so the whole experience holds together internationally.

  • Correct tax handling per region — VAT-inclusive display for the EU, US sales tax rules
  • Duties/DDP options so international customers can prepay and avoid surprise fees
  • Multi-language content with proper URLs so translated pages can rank in each market
  • Right-to-left language support where needed (e.g. Arabic, Hebrew)
  • Localized formats — dates, addresses, phone, and units

Frequently asked questions

Do I need separate stores per country, or one multi-currency store?

Most businesses do best with one store configured for multiple markets — Shopify Markets and WooCommerce both support currency, tax, and language per region without running separate sites. Separate stores make sense only when catalogs, brands, or legal setups differ sharply by country. One store is cheaper to run, and we'll tell you if your case is the exception.

How is currency conversion handled — do I lose money on exchange rates?

You can auto-convert from a base currency using live rates, or set fixed local prices in each currency for full control over margins and clean round numbers. We usually combine both: fixed prices in your key markets, auto-conversion for the rest, with rounding rules. The goal is that exchange-rate swings don't quietly erode your margin.

Is machine translation good enough, or do I need real translators?

For product listings and marketing copy that represent your brand, we recommend human translation or at least human review — machine translation alone often reads awkwardly and can undercut trust. For very large catalogs, a hybrid (machine draft plus human review of key pages) is a reasonable middle ground. We'll set up the workflow; the translation quality decision is yours to fund.
