Winning Rich Results and Snippets

Structured data helps search engines understand your content and can qualify pages for rich results — star ratings, product info, events — that stand out in the listings.

How structured data earns rich results

Structured data (usually Schema.org markup in JSON-LD) describes what a page is about in a machine-readable way. When it's valid and matches visible content, Google may show an enhanced result.

Markup makes you eligible — it never guarantees the rich result will appear, and Google decides case by case.

  • Use JSON-LD (Google's preferred format) with Schema.org vocabulary
  • Common types: Product, Review/AggregateRating, Article, Event, Recipe, Breadcrumb, LocalBusiness
  • Availability of specific types changes — Google has limited FAQ and HowTo results, for example
  • Markup must reflect content actually visible to users — no hidden or invented data
  • Validate with the Rich Results Test and monitor the Enhancements reports in Search Console

Implementing it honestly and correctly

The fastest way to lose rich results is a mismatch between markup and the page, or marking up content that isn't there.

We add accurate structured data for the result types your pages can genuinely support and keep it valid as pages change.

  • Match schema to real, on-page content and keep it in sync as content updates
  • Add Breadcrumb markup to clarify site hierarchy in results
  • Use each type only where the content truly is that type (a real product, event, recipe)
  • Never fake reviews or ratings — manufactured review markup risks a manual action
  • Fix errors and warnings flagged in the Rich Results Test and Search Console
  • Re-check markup after redesigns so it doesn't silently break

Frequently asked questions

Will adding structured data improve my rankings?

Structured data isn't a direct ranking factor. What it can do is make your page eligible for rich results that improve visibility and click-through. Any ranking benefit is indirect, through better presentation and understanding.

I added markup but no rich result appeared — why?

Eligibility doesn't guarantee display, and Google has narrowed which sites and types earn certain enhancements (FAQ results, for example). Valid markup still helps search engines understand the page even when the visual enhancement isn't granted.

Can structured data get me penalized?

Yes, if it's misleading — marking up content that isn't visible, or faking reviews and ratings — Google can issue a manual action against structured data. Accurate markup that matches the page is safe, and that's the only kind we implement.
