Material Design for Android Apps

Design and build Android apps that follow Google's Material design system, so they feel native, familiar, and trustworthy on Android. We apply Material's components, motion, and theming — including Material You dynamic color — without turning your app into a generic template.

What Material Design gives your app

Material is Google's design system for Android: a set of components, layout principles, typography, and motion patterns that Android users already understand. Following it means your app behaves the way people expect — buttons, sheets, navigation, and gestures all feel right — which lowers the learning curve and raises trust.

Material is a foundation, not a straitjacket. We use its structure and accessibility built-ins, then apply your brand's color and type so the app is clearly yours while still feeling native to Android.

  • Material 3 components: navigation bars, cards, sheets, dialogs, and inputs
  • Theming with your brand colors, typography, and shape system
  • Material You dynamic color on Android 12+ so the app adapts to the user's wallpaper
  • Consistent motion and transitions that communicate state and hierarchy
  • Light and dark themes handled correctly, including contrast
  • Accessible touch targets, focus order, and text scaling out of the box

Design that's native, not generic

The risk with any design system is that apps end up looking interchangeable. We avoid that by treating Material as the grammar and your brand as the voice — expressive theming, purposeful color, and a component style that's distinctly yours while staying within patterns Android users trust.

We also design for Android's real diversity: phones, foldables, tablets, and a range of screen densities, so the app looks intentional everywhere rather than only on one reference device.

  • Brand-forward theming that stays within Material's usability guarantees
  • Adaptive layouts for phones, large screens, and foldables
  • Design tokens so color, type, and spacing stay consistent across the app
  • Component variants tuned to your product instead of stock defaults
  • Handoff-ready specs when your own developers build alongside us
  • Alignment with Play Store expectations for a polished, native feel

Frequently asked questions

Will following Material make our app look like everyone else's?

Not if it's done well. Material defines behavior and accessibility, but color, typography, shape, and motion are all yours to shape. We use the system for what users expect and your brand for what makes the app recognizable.

What's Material You and do we need dynamic color?

Material You is the Android 12+ evolution that can tint your app from the user's wallpaper. It's a nice touch that makes an app feel at home on the device, but it's optional and we make sure your brand still reads clearly. We'll advise whether it fits your product.

Can Material Design apply if we also ship on iOS?

Yes, but thoughtfully. Material is Android's language; iOS has its own conventions. For cross-platform apps we decide together how much to unify versus respect each platform, so the app feels right to users on both rather than foreign on one.
